Fly Fishing for Trout in Patagonia and Mendoza

Over a decade ago, Rivers to Reefs founders, John Ecklund and Stephen Vletas, explored, worked, fished, and fell in love with Patagonia.

This year John and Stephen will once again be working with longtime friends and guides from Bariloche, Cholila, and Esquel to provide anglers with the most unique and service-oriented fishing adventures in Patagonia. By working with top Argentine guides, who all speak fluent English, John believes the overall "South American experience" is greatly enhanced.

The guides grew up in the region, live in the region, and are constantly exploring and fishing throughout Patagonia. They know all the local ins and outs, and have years of experience on all the waters you will fish. All trips are customized to meet the needs of small groups.

On floating/camping trips Rivers to Reefs can accommodate six anglers. At times, eight anglers can be accommodated at specific lodges, hosterias and estancias. By keeping the groups small, individualized personal service can be maintained at the highest level. Trips of any length are available at the time of year to suit your schedule. For those who want a more rounded experience (not all fishing), we will turn you on to wonderful foods, wines, and the gracious hospitality of Argentine culture.

NEW for the 2005/2006 season -- John and Stephen, and their Argentine guide partners from the Mendoza Fly Shop, will lead trips to remote Valle Hermoso near Las Lenas Resort to fish for large trout in the high Andean streams. This awe-inspiring region will give anglers a unique opportunity to fish Argentina without ever seeing another angler. In Mendoza, Rivers to Reefs offers full day guided fishing trips, plus 3- to 4-day horseback camp-out trips into Valle Hermoso. Most trips to Valle Hermoso include a first and last night at the Las Lenas Resort, however, all trips will be tailored for each group. Customized all-inclusive packages including tours of the wine country are available.

Mendoza Season: **Rio Mendoza is year-round, with the winter season (May through August) particulaly good. **Valle de Uco streams, Rio Atuel, Andes foothill streams - November 1 through April 30. **Valle Hermosa streams - January through early April.
